Man on a bench thinking of life goals

Have you ever thought about your goals in life? Having life goals is an important part of your daily motivation. They help you to better understand the meaning of life. If you now decide to define your life goals and work towards them, you will be happier in the future.

Goals in life can be anything. The love of your life, a successful career as a consultant or a healthier lifestyle: life goals are the answer to everything. Without goals, you won’t see any real progress. If you don’t know what your destination is, you can’t know how far you’ve come.

We can’t tell you what the meaning of life is. That’s a very philosophical subject.

However, we can help you to define your personal goals. Once you have found your calling and your life goal, you can start defining subgoals in the next step.

For the sub-goals, you can create simple plans and strategies. With these instructions, you will be more motivated in the long run. You feel more affirmed in your existence and strengthened in your self-esteem.

List of Goals to Set for Yourself: 5 Examples of Life Goals

In this article, we will show you a list of 5 life goals that will show you why it is important to find your purpose in life!

Life Goal 1: Find Your Passion

Passion is the key to our happiness. If we do things we love, we’re happy. So why stop at work?

Most people have a job they don’t like. We are at work more than 70 percent of our week. So 70 percent of our lives we do things we don’t like. At the end of the day, we look back and feel useless. We regret that we spend so much time at work.

Maybe not today, maybe not in five years, but someday for sure. In most cases, it is already too late. By having to go to work, we waste our most valuable good: the time we only have once in a lifetime.  Why don’t we find a job where we want to go to work? Where it’s actually not hard for us to get out of bed each morning. Where we never miss the alarm clock.

When we do things we like, we don’t really work. The actual work doesn’t feel like work. It’ more like a hobby. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be paid for your hobby?

All of us have things on our minds that we absolutely want to do. However, most people do not have the courage to demand the things they desire. Mostly we find lies to calm ourselves down and resign ourselves to it.

So if you want to be happy, look for your passion! If you have already found it, even better. Try to invest every free second in this hobby. Improve it and share your experiences with the world. Whether you’re building a blog, uploading videos to YouTube or by just talking to your friends about it. The important thing is that you have fun doing it. Your hobby might even become a business!

The good thing about it is, that you won’t see your drive in money. Like at a job. You’re gonna push it because you want it and you care about it.

One goal in life, therefore, can be to find your personal passion.

Be honest with yourself and think about what you always wanted to do. Dare to do extraordinary things once and for all. You won’t regret it! No matter what stage of your life you’re in: It’s never too late to start. Get started today.

Life Goal  2: Enjoy Your Life

Colorful life

Probably one of the most important goals in life. Even if it may sound natural, live your life the way YOU want it to. Go into yourself and ask yourself: “What is important in life?”

Personal goals are very individual. Just as happiness is individual. While some people see their happiness in starting a family, it can be important for others to boost their careers. What really matters in life, you have to find out for yourself. We can’t tell you what goals you should have in life, but that you should have some.

No one can make that decision for you. The important thing is that you are happy with your decision. If you live your life according to the things that make you happy, you will love to leave your bed every morning

If you are dissatisfied with the current situation in life, there are several ways to change this. We’ll show you an example of how to turn any hopeless situation into good. If you want to accelerate your career, for example, you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you think you’re in the right business?
  • Do you love your work?
  • Why are you still doing your current job?
  • Why are you going to work?
  • Are there things you would change in your current job?
  • What do you like about your job and what do dislike?

The first step in this process is therefore to analyze the current situation. Look at your position from top to bottom. Ask yourself if you are currently happy with the situation. If not, consider why, and what you need to improve.

After you have identified the problems, think of a step-by-step guide on how to proceed.

For example, if you’re stuck in your current job and have been waiting far too long for your promotion, there are the following options: Work longer and work harder. Be nice to your boss or even change companies. It always depends on your situation. We can’t give you general advice at this point.

Now you should know exactly what makes you happy, what keeps you from being happy and what you want to do to change it. By defining your goals, pay attention to the following 4 points: measurability, patience, realism, and focus.

Measurability is probably one of the most important characteristics of a goal. If you can’t measure how near or far you are from your goal, the goal makes little sense.

So the next time you define goals for your career, try to define them in that direction: I would like to acquire 3 analytical skills that are important for my career by the end of 2018. Your life goal, in this case, is happiness, a sub-goal the success in the career, and another sub-goal the acquisition of skills that are necessary.

Patience is important. Even if it is a difficult path and doesn’t work right away, be patient. Your time will come. From a constructive point of view: Think about how long you will probably need for this goal and how long it takes averagely.

Talk to people who have similar problems. But, more important than all that: measure your progress regularly. Look back and ask yourself exactly where you were 3 months ago and measure how far you have progressed. Progress will motivate you to continue. Always remember, no one is born a master. Perfection takes years.

Your goals must be realistic in its scope and deadlines. Only a few of us become superstars overnight. Everything takes time. So don’t be disappointed if you take longer than planned.

Better try to set your goals and deadlines so that you can attain them. Nobody can do this for you, because you know your working behavior, motivation and speed best. Keep a healthy mix between medium-term and long-term goals. Precisely because of the motivation.

Your time is precious. Invest it where it makes the most sense. Focus on the most important things not only during execution but also during the definition of your goals. Concentrate on those who have the greatest impact on your life goal and happiness.

You can’t have it all. Even if life is not always an “either or”, in certain situations you still have to decide what is more important to you. Concentrate on the steps that will (in this case) help you progress professionally and make you happy. Be open and honest with yourself and think about what you want from the bottom of your heart. And then go for it!

It really doesn’t matter what you’re up to: Live your life happy. That’s what makes it most enjoyable!

Life Goal  3: Take Care of Yourself

Although many people today care about their health and have a focused lifestyle, many forget about their emotional health.

Mental (emotional) health is a much more important contribution to a healthier self. Physical health is nothing without mental-emotional and spiritual health.

A goal in life can be to consciously take care of yourself.

Take more time for yourself. Do things at a pace you’re comfortable with. No one else will be able to force you to do things if you don’t let them. If you don’t feel like doing certain things, just say no. Pay more attention to your own wishes, your dreams, and your spiritual well-being.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, even if you make a mistake. Never forget: mistakes are part of success. We learn with every mistake we make. Do not see a mistake as a failure, but as an opportunity to learn something.

Don’t judge your own performance or other people. You never know what motivation, position or problems this person has at the moment. You better try to come clean with yourself.

Life Goal 4: Think of Others

Young and old people together

I’m sure you know the saying: Living is giving. It’s a give and take. Giving and taking stands for balance, a balance of justice. In today’s society, we only have space for taking. Often we have forgotten how beautiful it can be to give.

Most of us live our lives very much focused on ourselves. We now even unconsciously ignore the wishes of our fellow people. But we can do a lot of good just by doing small things. No matter how broke you are: There is always something you can contribute.

If we make our lives with kindness and give more to others than we take, good things will happen to us. Think of the Law of Attraction. We’re not saying that donations or anything like that is a must. A little more attention to our fellow people can already work wonders.

Help your people, without expecting anything in return. The feeling of doing something good is a great satisfaction. It satisfies us from the inside out.

Here are a few examples how you can do good:

  • Be nice to people you meet for the first time
  • Love and help without expecting anything in return
  • Share whatever you can
  • Donate things you no longer need
  • Listen carefully and be actively involved in discussions
  • Motivate your friends, especially in difficult times
  • Give well-intentioned advice
  • Don’t judge anyone. No matter what opinion the person has, take them seriously

As you can see, you can make a big difference with just a little attention. Why don’t you give it a try? Set your goal in life to become a better person, who cares about others and does not go through life selfishly.

Life Goal 5: Leave Your Comfort Zone

Is there one thing you’ve always wanted to do but never had the courage to do?

Welcome to the comfort zone. The comfort zone is an inner blockade that prevents us from doing things we have always wanted to do. It slows us down and stops us in many ways. We start to push our wishes aside for fear of the consequences. Life gets a little boring that way. Even though we understand that comfort and routine have their advantages: Have the guts to leave the comfort zone.

There are several ways out of the comfort zone. Travel, for example. The world has so many wonderful places to explore. New environments, outside the comfort zone, force personal growth.

You will adapt faster to new situations and appreciate the diversity our world has to offer. Get involved in adventures without actually planning. You will be fine.

You can also leave your comfort zone by changing jobs. Don’t stand still. Life is too short for comfort.

How Goals in Life Influence Your Future

Many people have not explicitly set their life goals. They describe the goals for your future but do not determine it. There are many ways to define your goal in life. Some descriptions are more detailed, while some are deliberately kept in general. There is no universal quality of life goals.

It’s up to you to find your calling. You don’t have to commit yourself completely to one direction. You can also have several goals in life. Life is not always “either or”. The fact is, however, that people who have defined and pursue one or more life goals are happier. They notice the progress and don’t feel like they are stuck.

Get Started Today!

We have now extensively talked about life goals and how they have a positive impact on your life. Now it’s up to you. Start taking charge of your life today. Don’t postpone it, because you’ve been doing this all your life.

Just write down what your life goal is. Develop a plan, by defining the first steps and activities and get started right away. If you start today, you’ll be one day closer to your goal.
